Mortal Kombat 1 Is $40 for Black Friday

Heads up, fighting game fans who also happen to enjoy seeing buckets of gore splashed all over the place. Mortal Kombat 1, the latest installment in the longrunning fighting game series, is on sale during Black Friday for $40 on all consoles. It's a recent release, and it normally costs $70, so a $30 price cut is what's called a killer deal. That price is only available in the Walmart Black Friday sale (it's more expensive everywhere else, even where it's on sale), so grab it before it sells out. You never know when a Black Friday video game deal will sell out.

This deal is good on all console versions of the game. That goes for PS5, Xbox Series X, and even the Nintendo Switch port. The question is, is Mortal Kombat 1 worth playing? It sure seems like it is. From our 8/10 Mortal Kombat 1 review:

"Mortal Kombat 1 is another great entry in this legendary series, but it’s not one without issues. The new Kameo system is excellent, there are smart changes to the fighting mechanics that address many of the fundamental issues that cropped up over Mortal Kombat 11’s life, and predictably, the fantastic single-player story mode that continues to be the gold standard of the genre. But certain elements of online play are starting to feel dated, and Invasions mode is not nearly engaging enough to hold my attention for as long as is needed to unlock a majority of the goodies hidden behind its many treasure chests and gimmicky battles. Still, Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise, and it’s a very exciting launching point for the next era."

The one warning is that the game doesn't perform great on Nintendo Switch. It's understandable — it's a demanding game on Xbox and PS5. Check out our Mortal Kombat 1 Nintendo Switch review for details about how it performs on the relatively under-powered system.
