There's still time to join the Fleet Battles in World of Warships: Legends

World of Warships

Waves crash violently against steely hulls, sailor crews scurry around like regimented ants to man the devastating weapons of warships, while the surrounding waters burst into foamy pillars from the relentless pounding of artillery bombardment. The strategy and thrill of naval warfare is a special one, and ever since its release in 2015, Wargaming's free-to-play online game, World of Warships, has ruled the waves on the video game front.

Ever-evolving, with hundreds of ships painstakingly designed based on their real-life counterparts, the game was already a global phenomenon when PC Gamer gave it a glowing review back in 2015, and it's showing no signs of slowing. A follow-up, World of Warships: Legends, launched in 2019, and is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

A big part of WoWS: Legends’ enduring appeal (beyond its sharply observed and thrilling recreation of naval warfare, that is), is through the steady support Wargaming has been providing with game modes. The latest of these, Fleet Battles, gives World of Warships: Legends players the opportunity to participate in special 5v5 Fleet matches, where they fight alongside their allies to earn resources, credits, XP, and special rewards.

Wargaming has crafted unique battle scenarios for these matches. After each battle, the spoils will be equally divided between winning Fleet members, bolstered by any boosters and Premium time that your team may have.

The Fleets mode is part of World of Warships: Legends, which launched in 2019, and has its own balancing system and UI tailored towards console players.

You'll need a Fleet Commander or Deputy from your Fleet to queue for this special mode, which takes place during Prime Time on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays and will be present in the next update, set to be released Early December.

Not part of a Fleet? Just create your own by gathering your trustiest shipmates and selecting the 'Fleets' tab from the main menu, where you'll get to choose a name, callsign, and emblem, and set special conditions on the membership and running of your Fleet.

Beyond Fleets, Legends is brimming with beloved game modes. Test your mettle and climb through the ranks in Ranked battles, which can range from team battles to intense one-on-one duels between captains. Compete in the more casual Arena Battle, with the Arms Race mechanic dropping bonuses around the map for players to scuffle over. Or if you fancy just going all-out, dive into a Brawl, where increased ship speeds and fire rates make for a more arcadey full-on style of battle.

World of Warships: Legends takes its commitment to historically accurate designs and combat seriously, but the devs aren't afraid of shaking things up for the seasonal events. These include fun twists like player-vs-AI battles, rubber duck battles (yes, you read that right), cosmic naval warfare in Stellar Clash, and even a racing mode.

These special events aren't on all the time however, so stay tuned at the game's Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram channels to find out when it's all kicking off. With millions of players, Legends has built up a vibrant community over the years, which you can share your tales of naval prowess with over at the official Reddit and Discord channels, and you can also tune in to watch the devs play on Twitch.
