Sony Is Working on a Days Gone Movie
The parade of PlayStation movie and series adaptations continues, as we're now learning Sony is working on a Days Gone movie.
Reported by Deadline, Sony PlayStation Productions is apparently developing the film with an adaptation from X-Men: First Class story developer Sheldon Turner. The movie will be produced by Vendetta Productions and PlayStation Productions.
Released in 2019, Days Gone is an open world action-adventure game set in the post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest. The game stars Deacon St. John, a motorcycle-riding bounty hunter fighting to survive against the Freakers, zombie-like creatures that frequently attack in hordes. Deacon also spends much of the game searching for the long-lost love of his life. According to the report, the movie will be a "love ballad to motorcycle movies; the bike being Deacon’s sole form of transportation".
The producers are currently eyeing Outlander star Sam Heughan to play Deacon St. John. The actor has also appeared in The Spy Who Dumped Me, Bloodshot, and the upcoming Everest movie.
We wrote in our Days Gone review, "Some fine tuning and editing could have removed the tedium and celebrated what makes this game unique and interesting, but Days Gone rides strictly down the middle of the dusty road and never finds its rhythm."
The new Days Gone adaptation is just the latest in a string of announcements from Sony. Some of the PlayStation movies and series in the works include HBO's The Last of Us show, the Uncharted movie franchise, the God of War series for Amazon Prime, a Twisted Metal series for Peacock, Netflix's Horizon series, a Gran Turismo show, and the Ghost of Tsushima movie. For that project, we recently learned the director wants the movie to be entirely in Japanese.
